Life-Cycle Events

Babies are named on our bema and children enter adulthood here. A school child’s first prayer book, a teenager’s Bar Mitzvah and Confirmation, and an adult’s first reading from the Torah are all regular parts of our synagogue life. At Beth Israel, we create the warmest, most meaningful, and spiritually infused life cycle celebrations. We celebrate the beauty and grandeur of ongoing creation in the precious lives of our congregational families.

Naming Ceremonies

A naming ceremony, also known as a brit bat for girls or brit milah for boys, symbolizes the introduction of a baby into the covenant of the Jewish people. This significant lifecycle event is an opportunity for families to come together and share in the blessings of a new life. Our synagogue is honored to be a part of these meaningful moments, providing a sacred space for families to embrace tradition, faith, and the bonds that connect generations.

Bar and Bat Mitzvah ceremonies represent significant milestones in the lives of our young members, marking their transition into adulthood within the Jewish community. With reverence and joy, we guide each Bar and Bat Mitzvah candidate through months of study and preparation, culminating in a deeply meaningful ceremony during our Shabbat services. These ceremonies are a testament to our commitment to nurturing the spiritual growth and education of our youth, empowering them to take on the responsibilities of Jewish adulthood with pride and confidence. Surrounded by family, friends, and the support of our congregation, each Bar and Bat Mitzvah shines as they lead the community in prayer and reflection, embracing their heritage and strengthening their connection to Jewish tradition.New Paragraph

Weddings

A Jewish wedding is filled with meaningful traditions from the Ketubah (marriage contract) to the Chuppah (wedding canopy) to the breaking of the glass. Rabbi Feshbach is honored to officiate at weddings at Beth Israel and other locations. Wedding couples are required to attend several premarital sessions to prepare for this transition in life, as well as to explore the Jewish aspect of this milestone.

To arrange for an initial meeting with Rabbi Feshbach regarding officiating at your wedding, please contact the synagogue office at (609) 641-3600.

Conversions

There are many reasons one might consider conversion to Judaism. You will want to discuss your reasons for wanting to do so with the rabbi. The conversion process includes the study of Jewish theology, rituals, history, culture, and customs. During the process, you incorporate Jewish practice into your life. The conversion culminates with a ceremony at the synagogue in which you are welcomed into the Jewish community.

The first step on this journey is to make an appointment with Rabbi Feshbach. Contact the synagogue office at (609) 641-3600
